Today's question for State of Marriage: When you were growing up, did you ever imagine that you would get married? If so, why? what were you hoping for? what did you imagine? If not, why not?

Can you remember how old you were when you first had these thoughts? is there a story that goes with it? Pls be as specific as possible.

I've been thinking about how there was such an edict that marriage and kids is what people do. And now I wonder where that came from. I always thought I'd be married. When I was 12, I designed a house for me and my wife. I was going to work all night in a darkroom and she'd sleep. I didn't envision computers then.

Being done with school seemed to be more important to me that marriage. And pleasing my parents. My grandpa always would encourage me to marry a Jewish girl. He said that if I did he'd give me a Jaguar. I didn't fulfill his wish, but in high school I bought my own Jaguar... about 8" long and made of plastic. I painted it black with red dots... and thought then that I'd be ok no matter what religion was my wife.
